The famous "Solidarity" movement, which greatly contributed to the fall of the Iron Curtain in Europe, was born in Gdańsk, specifically in summer 1980 during a strike at the local Lenin Shipyard.
The European Solidarity Centre, a museum and research hub, documents the heritage of the famed organization led by Lech Wałęsa. Surrounding the iconic ECS shipyard building are cultural institutions, trendy clubs, and popular summer street food zones.
