Stretching along the coastline of Gdańsk and Sopot is a unique seaside park, with a scenic route running between the beach and green spaces, including a promenade and a cycle path.
Its most distinctive landmark is Sopot’s Kuracyjny Square and Europe’s longest wooden pier, extending more than half a kilometre into the Baltic Sea and ending at a modern yacht marina. During the summer season, the area hosts exhibitions, culinary workshops and open-air cinema screenings.
The pier has been one of Sopot’s most recognisable landmarks since the early days of the resort, dating back to the first half of the 19th century. It was then that Dr Jean Georg Haffner, a former physician in Napoleon’s army, initiated the development of a bathing establishment here. Today, the site is home to the historic Balneological Institute and its distinctive lighthouse.
